Welcome, my friend. I’m glad you’re here (⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎).
The most important factor to therapy, to me as a therapist, is the therapeutic relationship. Are we a good fit? Do we vibe? If yes, then incredible - we’ve reached our first therapy goal!
Once we’ve got that rapport going, we’ll start to talk about what you want to work on.
Here are some general questions that we might cover in our first few sessions:
What made you reach out in the first place?
What are the areas in your life that you’d like to see changed?
What are some habits or patterns of behaviors that you’ve noticed that are kind of giving you the ick?

The biggest difference between going to a confidant versus a therapist is the ability to be objective in our conversations. Your friends, family, and loved ones have a natural bias towards you and your perspective; plus, sometimes they’re just…not very helpful? Platitudes, brushing off your concerns, giving advice when you don’t need it, etc. are all common experiences that can occur when you’re opening up to your people.
In my case, I’m trained to do none of those things. I’m trained in a whole bunch of other skills that ultimately create a space where you can build perspective and enact change based on your values.
